Transistors are imbedded in the LCD panel itself, improving image stability. Having said that, Toshiba brought innovation to the computer world, and mostly to portable computers that we call laptops today.

Samsung always releases beautiful notebooks, and its Samsung Series 9 is amazingly thin and fabulous. Though this ultraportable notebook was revealed last year, it won many fans due to its unique look. In the year of 2012, Samsung will release a more common material for their next gen rather than the Duralumin material. Samsung plans to start selling their new and improved Samsung Series 9 premium ultraportable laptop computers starting on February 27, 2012. Prices will start at $1,399.99 for a 13.3” model and at $1,499.99 for a 15” model.

The new second generation Samsung Series 9 laptops not only use a different design material than last years model, but they also look different and offer more portable dimensions. According to Samsung they’ve dropped weight by 30% down to 2.5 lbs. for the new second gen. 13.3″ Series 9 laptop over the previous years 13.3″ model, also the thickness is down to just half of an inch for the 13.3″ second gen. Series 9 laptop. The 15-inch model will weight a little more at 3.5 lbs. and measure a bit thicker at 0.58-inches.

Unlike last years Samsung Series 9 release the new second gen. models will launch with 13.3-inch and 15-inch display size options. Previously the only option other than a 13.3-inch Series 9 was a smaller 11.6-inch Series 9. Samsung probably chose to offer a 15-inch model to combat any possible 15-inch Apple Macbook Air. Laptop Battery for Notebooks

If you have got a notebook, you may need to replace a brand new laptop battery after one year or two. I always keep my laptop in a good condition, so my laptop screen looks very new; however, I have to buy battery for my notebook after two years, for my original laptop battery cannot get charged any longer. Why does my notebook need a laptop battery?

Most computers have a small battery. In many cases, the battery is soldered directly onto the motherboard, but the battery is usually in some sort of holder so it is easy to replace. Computers are not the only things that have a small battery like this — camcorders and digital cameras often have them, too. Just about any gadget that keeps track of the time will have a battery.

In your computer (as well as other gadgets), the battery powers a chip called the Real Time Clock (RTC) chip. The RTC is essentially a quartz watch that runs all the time, whether or not the computer has power. The battery powers this clock. When the computer boots up, part of the process is to query the RTC to get the correct time and date. A little quartz clock like this might run for five to seven years off of a small battery. Then it is time to replace the battery.

This does not explain why your computer would not boot, however. You would expect the computer to boot fine but have an incorrect time and date. The reason your computer would not boot is because the RTC chip also contains 64 (or more) bytes of random access memory (RAM). The clock uses 10 bytes of this space, leaving 54 bytes for other purposes. The BIOS stores all sorts of information in the CMOS RAM area, like the number of floppy and hard disk drives, the hard disk drive type, etc. If the CMOS RAM loses power, the computer may not know anything about the hard disk configuration of your machine, and therefore it cannot boot.

Many more modern computers are not quite so dependent on the CMOS RAM. They store the settings in non-volatile RAM that works without any power at all. If the battery goes dead, the clock fails but the computer can still boot using the information in the non-volatile RAM area. So we need a battery for laptop, and replace a new laptop battery every year or two.

Why Some Batteries Rise from The Dead?

It is really an interesting phenomenon that some batteries will rise from the dead after a period of time. If you have never noticed it before, you can do an experiment using dead laptop batteries or car batteries. Of course, this special feature is most noticeable in a car battery rather than notebook battery.

In some cases you can crank the engine until the battery seems totally dead, then come back an hour later and crank it again. The higher the drain on the battery (a car’s starter motor is an incredibly high-drain device!), the greater the effect.

Why these self-recharging batteries rise from the dead? Let’s take the simplest zinc/carbon battery as an example. If you take a zinc rod and a carbon rod, connect them together with a wire, and then immerse the two rods in liquid sulfuric acid, you create a battery. Electrons will flow through the wire from the zinc rod to the carbon rod. Hydrogen gas builds up on the carbon rod, and over a fairly short period of time coats the majority of the carbon rod’s surface. The layer of hydrogen gas coating the rod blocks the reaction occurring in the cell and the battery begins to look “dead”. If you let the battery rest for awhile, the hydrogen gas dissipates and the battery “comes back to life”.

Many battery-operated appliances use two or four cells in series to create higher voltages. If one of the cells has a problem (for example, it does not dissipate reaction products as well as the other batteries), it can make all of the batteries appear to go dead. If you test the batteries individually, however, three of the four may be fine. If the batteries seem to go dead too quickly, testing all four batteries is a good idea. Throw out the bad one and re-use the other three.

In any battery, be it an alkaline battery found in a flashlight or a lead acid battery in a car, the same sort of thing can happen. Reaction products build up around the two poles of the battery and slow down the reaction. By letting the battery rest, you give the reaction products a chance to dissipate. The higher the drain on the battery, the faster the products build up, so batteries under high drain appear to recover more. If you find your battery for latpop or car battery is dead, you can put these cheap laptop parts or car parts in one place. Let it rest for some time, and then you can re-use it again.

Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are the bridge between NiCad and the newer Lithium-Ion (LiIon) batteries. They last longer between charges than NiCad but overall have a shorter total lifespan. They suffer from the memory effect, but to a lesser extent than NiCad batteries.
